New SPIN! Opens In Overland Park

Local favorite SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza just opened its eighth metro location.

The new pizza hub is in south Overland Park, in the Corbin Park Retail Village, 6510 W. 135th St.

Expect the same award-winning fare that can be found at the other locations, including artisan food made from fresh ingredients and distinct, inviting atmosphere that appeals to all ages.

In 2005, when we opened our first location on 119th Street in Overland Park, SPIN! was one of the nation’s first Neapolitan-style pizzerias,” says Ed Brownell, a Partner in SPIN! Pizza. “We are excited to open a second location in Overland Park serving the booming residential and commercial development that’s taken place to the south of our original location. And it’s a special thrill that the General Manager has been with us since we opened the doors of our first location.”

The General Manager of the new location, Molly McClure, began as a server 10 years ago when the first SPIN! opened further north in Overland Park.

McClure was an 18-year-old senior at Blue Valley North High School, with an eye on a culinary career, when she began as a server/cashier at SPIN! Pizza. At 22, she was promoted to a salaried management position before being named a general manger two years ago. This is the first time she will open a new location. McClure says that she loves working at SPIN! because the employees are like family and the award-winning food is freshly made on site.

SPIN! is great because it’s a scratch kitchen,” she said. “It’s not like a big corporate where everything comes prepared for you and you just put things together. It’s neat to be somewhere you can actually cook.”

SPIN!’s recipes are developed in collaboration with James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Smith, who also was just named national Chef Innovator of the Year.

SPIN! has locations under construction in the Northland’s Burlington Creek Shopping Center and Warrensburg’s University of Central Missouri. SPIN! currently has locations in Crown Center, midtown Kansas City and Lee’s Summit, Mo. and in Overland Park, Olathe, Prairie Village and Lenexa, Ks.

KC Restaurant Week Gearing Up To Delight Diners

Kansas City Restaurant Week is getting ever closer.

The 10-day dining extravaganza which benefits local charities floods the KC metro with amazing food Jan. 16-25, 2015.

Participants in Restaurant Week offer multi-course meals for lunch and/or dinner from custom menus for $15 and $33, respectively. Participating restaurants’ culinary teams develop Restaurant Week menus from existing, specially created and “limited time only” dishes. More than 115 restaurants are already registered to participate in the event benefiting five local organizations.

Donations raised during the 2015 event benefit BoysGrow, an urban-farming initiative whose mission is to teach entrepreneurism to urban male youth; Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, an organization offering training and educational programs to visually-impaired children and their families; and Cultivate Kansas City, an organization providing incentives for low-income families to shop at local farmers markets. The Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Education Foundation also receive a share of the 2015 donations.

In preparation for Restaurant, US Foods launched a redesigned KCRestaurantWeek.com. New features join a host of other information available on the site, including participating restaurant listings and menus.

The revamped site’s new features include:

  • A visual layout optimized for mobile devices
  • A restaurant search function powered by Google to compensate for common misspellings.
  • Mapping features that clearly identify a restaurant’s location and region.
  • A “Make a Night of It” section highlighting deals and packages from partner hotels, as well as information on shopping experiences available from Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, Zona Rosa, Crown Center, Town Center Plaza and Power & Light districts.
